May 16 - Forgiveness

Forgiveness is not easy, at all.

It’s easy to recount each blow, each harsh word, each slight. Forgiving them is much harder.

It’s hard to forgive others for the pain and trauma they’ve caused us. It’s hard to forgive ourselves for the pain and trauma we’ve caused ourselves, and others.

I can’t find who said it originally, but there’s a quote about forgiveness that I love:

“Forgiveness means giving up all hope for a better past.”

I think everyone should release the anger and shame and frustration they are holding onto because of the pain others have inflicted on them, and for the pain they have caused.

I don’t believe you have to forgive those that have hurt you. I think you can release the hurt and pain without forgiveness. I think forgiving someone is something you have to decide for yourself.

And I think some things are unforgivable.

But, if you choose to forgive, I hope these affirmations help you to forgive with an open heart, and to embrace forgiveness.
