Day 7 - Motivation

Motivation. How willing are we to get something done. A goal can only be accomplished by having the drive to get it done. Desire is never enough – remember the last time you decided to eat better? The desire was there, but the ability to persist through temptations and obstacles is what gets us to the goal. That is motivation.

Knowing what we want to do is important. More important is WHY we want to do something. That “why” is what truly drives our motivation.

Motivation, like willpower, goes up and down. It can be super strong initially, then wane until it’s almost gone. Then something will come up that brings it surging back, just to fade again when things get tough. This can be especially true when the motivation comes from outside – money, the scale, that promotion. But it can also happen when the motivation is internal – creativity, self-validation, autonomy.

I wrote these affirmations to help remember why I want to accomplish my goals, and to help me keep going.
